But let me point some incidents from our family...

In my maternal circle, my grandmother's mother was the controller of
the family.. and she virtually dominated everyone, and held all the
properties tightly with her.. (her husband, even though goes for work
outside, has to give the earnings to her..)

In paternal lineage, my grandfather's mother was virtually feared by
all.. no one would dare to provoke her.. and her husband has to give
the earnings to her.. incidently she knows mathematics and how to
count, and her husband do not know..

And the great grandmothers from both the parental lineage lost their
husband earlier, and wore white saree only.. but they virtually
controlled all other thing.. they died long back when i was in child
hood..

The media will project wearing white saree as discrimination against
women.. or it will project it as something forced upon the women kind..

But still my maternal grandmother is wearing white saree... no one
compelled her.. its a culture that was religiously followed by women
for centuries..

What i want to say is that many of the research studies that we study
do not reflect the actual reality.. as in the case of my own experience..

For those who are fortunate enough to get some links with their
villages or cultures, they can find from their own experience..

For those who just come to know from media articles, please remember,
there are many dimensions to it..
