Friends,
Sanskrit may be an oldest language for some of you in India but
certainly its not mine and many like me. For me my language Santali
is one of the oldest of the Indian languages as explained rightly by
Prabir.As it was a spoken language for centuries, its history,
culture and tradition was passed on orally for generations in the
form of songs and legends.It had no script of its own until OLCHIKI
came along.Before that it was obliged to use the scripts of the
regions where they lived like DEVNAGRI in Bihar, Jharkhand,BENGALI in
West Bengal,ORIYA in Orissa and ROMAN in all areas during the British
Raj.By the way it is now one of the Indian languages included in the
schedule 8 of the constitution of India and the well wishers of the
language are trying to preserve and promote the language at all level
of education.
Although languages, cultures and religions are important in the lives
of most of us,we should leave these to individuals to relish and
enjoy and not make them topics for public discussion.
I can not understand why some of our members keep raising such issues
in this forum. There are many topics beneficial to the group
and India as a whole which we should be talking and discussing about.
May I remind us all that this site was developed to discuss the
developmental issues of the people of the Jharkhand region and India.
I hope some of you will take notice of what I am saying and move on
to more relevant and important issues.
