Friends,
What the TOI group thru its Teach India program currently undergoing
and the Teach India Fellowship 2009 we are talking about is doing is
a unique initiative which amply demonstrates the social concern of
the group.
Yet, there is one thing in particular that I found a bit disturbing.
It is as regards the criteria suggested by the Group for the
candidate to be fluent in English. The reason given is that they
will have to interact with English medium schools.
My contention is- Can't the same study be done for Hindi medium
schools as well? Should it not be extended to the other regional
language schools, particularly the more prominent ones? There are
very good schools teaching in these languages as well. They are
performing no lesser than the English medium schools. So, if we have
to learn Education and Educative means, we shall go and seek
information and knowledge from those schools as well. It will not
only broaden the future coarse of action of this program, it would
be more holisticl. The unnecessary domination of English as an
educational language would also be curtailed to some extent.
