Senthil Raja wrote Dear Walter, Regarding your issue of no government cared for tribals, i feel, its over generalisation.. In tamilnadu, there are proper road facilities in most of the villages in plains and to some extent in tribal areas.. except for some villages deep inside the forest, there are moderate road facilities available.. But for Northeast, the situation might be as you have described.. In gujarat, excellent facilities had been provided in tribal areas.. the government had taken extra steps to promote tribal festival through sabari kumbh.. In other areas, the vanvasi kalyan ashram had bee providing basic healthcare to the tribal villages.. in tiruvallur, coimbatore and in kolli hills, teams had been formed with educated persons among tribal communities to distribute medicines for basic diseases like fever, cold etc and also first aid kits are distributed for every villages through community partnership. Apart from this, the vanvasi kalyan ashram conducts tribal sports festival every year, to promote friendship among different tribal communities. Also to facilitate integration with mainstream, they have been arranging meetings of tribal youths with people from towns.. One of the major approach of vanvasi kalyan parishad is that they endorse the traditional vanvasi icons, right from ithikas to freedom struggles.. Icons like Guha, Raghunath Sahay, Shankar Sahay, Tantya Bhil and others .. This creates a sense of confidence among them, that they are not alone in this country..
And very recently, a massive education programme has been launched to make all the tribal people literate, through ekal vidyalaya and single teacher schools.. Instead of alleging each other, mutual trust and friendship can be built b/w the missionaries and hindu outfits to work towards the welfare of the people. The RSS had saved 80 christian priests in orissa.. why cant we build mutual trust and good will out of such positive incidents? http://www.tribuneindia.com/2005/20050711/nation.htm#11
