I have worked with a large number of NGOs. I have found both good and bad ones - those genuinely interested in the service of the marginalised and those using them a canon fodder. To which of them we refer depends very much our own ideology. Those not in favour of the weak look at the NGOs that use these groups while those interested in social transformation join many who are ready to lay down their lives for them. I have met many who have in fact been killed, harrassed or beaten for their work among the poor. So we should not devalue their commitment by looking at only those who use the poor. Walter
