Conversion of religion does not always lead to loss of identity - in fact in a complex multicultural land like India it almost never does. This is because religions form a superstructure to a foundation that comprises complex beliefs, practices, rituals, structural obligations and so on. Religion is a filter through which we interpret the deeper realities of life, and believe you me, the interpretations cannot be hugely different even from the lenses of different religions because the ground level experiences are pretty much the same.
