Dear Friends, I usually dump all the discussions on reservation in my recycle bin because all those who debate are trying to slice the cake in their own favor and skirt the quintessential issue - Reservation is a blatant disgrace against religious equality that is trumpeted under the mountain high banner of secularism in India. All those who get the benefits of Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes are supposed to be Hindus. Thus, all the reserved jobs, legislative seats, and earmarked opportunities are taken away from the fair competition of the due process, and as a result, religious minorities (non-Hindus) are deceived, tricked, swindled, and shortchanged. In this way, religious minorities are hatefully prohibited to qualify for these opportunities. We believe that India is a country of equality and of religious freedom. But in practice, we strategically deprive non-Hindus to compete on the level plain field. If there is an opposition to reservation, it should be straightforward – no reservation on the basis of race, religion, caste, region, and language; a uniform law for a unified India. If we continue to solidify reservations, we will have no moral rights to oppose Raj Thackeray, who is asking for special treatments for his Marathi Manoos, Nagas, who are demanding privileges for their sons of the soil, and Kashmiris, who are expecting special protection under the guaranteed Indian constitution's framework. Who knows, next in line will be Kannads, Telugus, Tamils, and Gujaratis and so on. I personally got impacted by the reservation. I got qualified for the position of Deputy Collector in Bihar, but at that time, the state of Bihar reserved 250 seats for backward castes. A friend of mine, who borrowed notes from me and scored less than 10% from me, got hired because he was from a backward Hindu caste. Yes, by virtue of my hard work, I landed in the United States as it happened with Mr. Manoj Padhi, but think of my pride, my family's future at that time. Reservation ruined me for a while. It took away my pride in being an honest, sincere, hard working Indian. When I was in India, I never developed a mind set of a religious minority. I always felt a proud Indian, nothing less, nothing hyphenated and still I do. Thanks to the United States that allowed me to be a complete human being, again.
