What this meeting will solve is known already. It is self defeating.
BecauseAs is obvious , What they are going to resolve in the meeting will be
1. that it is the Sangh Pariwar which is responsible for the violence
2. That the Christians are the targets
3. That the majority community is innocent and is instigated by Sangh
Pariwar.
4. That the Christians and Hindus were living in harmony and want to
live so in future This strategy will flop and will strengthen the Sangh Pariwar further
because (point by point to the above)
1. The commonest citizen in Orissa knows the problem is social not
communal. If the Secularists and missionaries want to pump the info that
the Sangh Pariwar did it, the commoner will want the pariwar to do it
next time also when the tribals are exploited. They feel they are one
swamy down to fight the missionaries. The swamy was Oriyan not a tribal.
2. It is a problem between tribals and Dalits- both unfortunate people.
The casualties are on these sides only. The missionaries, who are
sitting pretty at Delhi and Bhuvaneswar have had no harm. This will make
the tribals more furious towards the missonaries . Also, the dalits who
want to move away from violence will shun Christianity.
3. The majority community will look more and more suspiciously at the
ways of the missionaries and their own' secular' brothers who are party
to the sinister international campaign that the minorities are attacked.
They know that the violence was confined to tribal areas and the victims
were in fact sheltered by the majority community in several places.
Painting the Orissa Hindu as fundamentalist will push them more into the
Sangh fold. Venkat
