I largely agree with Ms Anjali Deshpande.
I, however, want to bring to your notice that Satyam episode has nothing
novel about it. The nexus of business and politics has been highlighted
several times since Independence. Please recall Mundhara episode and the
debates in Parliament, books on and inquiries into the affairs of the
Birla House and the Vivian Bose Commission's huge report on Dalmia-Jain
affairs, in which there is a chapter "Outside Witnesses", which is very
instructive to read. It says JP, who later became Lok Nayak and a "symbol"
of all that is good in our polity, tendered evidence to help Damia-Jain
and this evidence was unceremoniously rejected by Justice Bose as
worthless.
Almost all political parties survive on the money coming from corporate
sector, which in return gets more than adequate compensation. This reduces
public accountability of political parties and their leaders. Take the
case of UP, Sanjay Dalmia, Jayant Malhotra, Anil Ambani, etc. were sent to
Rajya Sabha by paries that are supposed to be committed to Lohiaite and
Ambedkarite ideologies.
