I completely agree with you. Fanaticism is not the province of a single religion. Only thing that one could add that it is not what people of Europeans have already done, but what they continue to do, as clearly visible in Iraq, Gaza, or Afghanistan. When people tend to leave out class and power relations from their calculations, it becomes easier for them to play identity politics. And guess who gain by religious fanaticism- who else but the masters of the universe- the people who run the wall street and who party in five star hotels while the commoners starves and dies.
