I think this talk on tribals are not Hindus stems from some 'historic' statements. First it was the British and their Indian stooges. Next was the Jawaharlal Nehru led marxist bogey. It was the marxist theory that placed the Brahmins, Kshatriyas and Vaishyas as alien to this land and placed them out of this country despite every evidence countering their claims. These patriotic people, once the very backbone of Indian society are today placed under various categories as OBC, etc. Today's gene study analyses groups based on a concept of tribes. For example the genes of brahmins are studied as tribes and specific groups of people are also categorised according to their own tribal origin. So, every group has a lineage starting from a specific tribe. But, the self appointed messiahs of tribes in this group still harp on the 'tribals are separate' theory as if they descended from Mars . The language of tribals, and their scripts are so close to other Indian languages. We have so many historic and mythological references mentioning tribals, and we have saints from their ranks. But, still we see the same bboringly repeated statements saying the tribals heve separate identity. They forget the simple fact that every caste group in the country is separate. But no one claims separate religion status. One should remember that the last word on Indian history is not said yet. In fact the conclusion is very far off. Nehru's conclusion that Rigveda was written just three thousand years ago and describing Ramayana as the struggle between Aryan and Dravidian people is simply rubbish to say the least. Modern digs in Afganistan has placed Indian civilization at 7000 BC ! And when did the fair skinned aryan enter India ? And how did he persecute the just three thousand year old tribal people into submission ? These questions have to be squarely dealt with before awarding the tribals a separate religious status. Till then no threat of legal suits will cook.
