Dear T V Sinha I think more than regionalism these statements are examples of racism. One has noticed it so often in our attitude to caste, for example during the recent reservations controversy. The statements smack of racism. I have seen its follow up in many forms. For example, a few years ago "beating a Bihari" was a form of entertainment among some students in Delhi. Communal, racist, caste, regional attacks are not possible without considering the "other" inferior. One has read it so often in some on the posts in this list, for example proclaiming India a land of Hindus alone and declaring the others intruders. The type of statements that are made about one's religion and the religion of others, the manner in which the killing of Dalits or of Muslims or at present of Christians is justified are examples of racist attitudes. One needs to work against such attitudes that are basic to fascism often presented as nationalism. Walter
