Now let me go a little further on Ambedkar.

The surname of Ambedkar was adapted by Bhim Rao after a brahmin of that name helped him. Not a missionary. Ambedkar was a nationalist to the core. He knew that once a person converts to Christianity or Islam, his patriotism dies out.

How many times have we seen Indian muslims cheering for Pakistani cricket team ?

Are we not witness to the North east people like Nagas, Mizos asking for independence just because they are christians ?

Most of you are not aware that Ambedkar had a deeper understanding of Hindu religion than any of the historians of his time. It was he, who researched and wrote that the vedic segregation into varnas was done after a student completed his Gurukula. This was concealed to many of the present Indians who were made to believe that Vedic tradition imposed caste by heredity. Ambedkar pooh poohed this theory and also wrote that the sacred thread wearing ceremony (upanayana) was only after the gurukula was completed.

Ambedkar wrote that this Vedic wisdom was lost somewhere before five thousand years that led to assuming Varnas were hereditary.

I raise a point in conclusion. Can you tell whether any great violence erupted after he castigated the caste system ? You will never be sure.

In America, when slavery was abolished, a civil war broke out. When Galileo opposed religion backed beliefs, he had to pay the price with his life. So did Socrates.

But, in this Gnana Bhoomi, Ambedkar was praised not only by the affected but by the educated elite (including me, if I qualify for that). In comparison , Martin Luther King is still despised by the white in America.

As Ambedkar understood the present Hinduism, he had a correct understanding of islam and Christianity also besides Buddhism.  He knew that when he changed religion, he changed nationality.

I have no regrets when Harijans  convert to Buddhism or Even Sikhism. So are crores of Hindus. Every day, in my Sandhyavandanam, while doing sankalpa, I say "Subhe sobhane muhurte,..... Boouddhavatare,.........".
