A nice reply. Still I wonder why the communal tension is happening
in India.
With my background of being a Hindu shouldered with Muslim
brothers/friends, I hate the communal feelings and disturbances.
Just a flashback of Muslims and Hindus brotherhood can be seen in
Madurai and itrs surroundings is agood examples for communla harmony.

My home is jus oppsite a mosques at Thathaneri, Madurai. We woke up
hearing teh morning call from the mosque. We knew the custmes of
Tamil muslims in that area. Muslim bhais of this area assimilted
well with the other religous groups. Muslims will address the Asari
(carpenters) as Appu (father) and to the Naidus as Mama (paternal
Uncle) and the thevars as sittapu (Paternal uncle- Chacha. still the
same relationship continues.
People from other religions when crossing the mosques with marriage
ceremony or death cermony with the drums or any sound instruments
will not play while crossing the mosque. Muslim tailors are popular
and tehy integrate with the community like any other persons. I can
duifferentiate MAsjid tailor or Sulthan tailor as any other person.
I havde to invite for my marraige and they have also invited me and
offered Briyani or Guska.
Mr. Sulthan is the regular harmoniam player in the Hanuman temple
every saturday almost for 25- 30 years. I heard or familarised with
MS Subbulakshmi or MKT Bhgavatr songs through his singing and
harmonium.

When there is urs in the mosque, we used play Kabadi or silambam in
the process.
Remember my grand father and father had a fihgt with some of the
Muslims friends during 1948 not as a communal fight but for the land
dispute. Still we both did not utter a single word in the name of
religion. We had court cases for the land.
Still during teh Ramzan month, we used to get RAmzan Ganji from the
muslim brothers.

Even there is a viilage namely Kalimangalam near Madurai. Itis a
unique nature of communal harmony. My father's village where he was
brought up. About 60% belong to Muslims. Even now, the ptreseident
of the village has to inaugrtae the hindu festival by dancing like a
possed hindu god. During the rqamzan and Bakrid, the whole village
of 5000 hosueholds will be fed by the Muslims. No trace of communal
tension or even a caste tension.

Another village iruvalavayanallur nera Madurai also like the eariler
mentioned village. About 65% Muslims and it is the honest village I
have evr come across in my travelling of about 600 villages in India
spread over north south and west.

Communal harmony should be based on the mind set. I knew little bit
od Nabi sal allah, Balkis, Abu baker, Sayed, Fatima thorugh the
Jumma lecture from my mosque. The Nagore Hanifa's islam songs are
still famous in my area, which was adopted from the popular HIndi
songs of 60s and 70s.

May be my muslims frineds can differeentiate between communal and
religious feelings. Still other religious persosn like us also are
also very considerate and gave due to respect to other religions. Or
may the area is full of wage earners, labourers, communists and
athesists and never bother to fuel the communal mind sets. Or may be
tamil Muslims are not very communal in the mind sets.
Whatever it may be even now a muslim frined is invited for food, we
procurre the halal non veg. I am sure there is no Jhatka non veg in
Madurai still.
It is a give and take ploicy which maintains the communal harmony in
the south. I stringly belive teh harmony and enjoyment of brothehood
will continue for many more years in my country.
