I met a brahmin boy, about 15 years ago in my neighbour's home. My neighbours were a joint family of sisters of different denominations of christians. The elder being pentecostal , the second a Roman Catholic, and the third being protestant - all based on their husband's inclinations. The protestant couple were pastors and used to have 'ghost driving' sessions in their home which used to be usually noisy and well attended.
This boy, till the other day a vegetarian, suddenly started eating meat. The simple reason he gave was that Christianity supported it and it was no sin. I patiently explained to him that avoiding meat in a way will help him spiritually also and will definitely drive away the ghosts inside his stomach at least. I felt later that I spoke to a dumb wall.
I had another friend who started drinking saying all his christian friends did it. He said the father also had it. I recently read a booklet written by two Christians. The book was published by Iskcon. It was a small book. There they were telling the virtues of a meat free and alchohol free life. They were still christians then.
This is the precise reason that churches across Europe and America are becoming empty. As per a recent estimate, about half of Americans say they do not follow a religion. 25 % percent are meditating. 25 % say they believe in reincarnation. 5 % of them are practicing Hindu customs. A minute fraction has converted. American Hindu temples now have more Americans as vistiors than Hindus.
The psychic change of heart and intellectual change of heart are different. The other day, a muslim girl who for some reason or the other did not get married, was directed by her Hindu neighbours to visit a nearby 'Kalyana Subrahmanya" temple. She got engaged within a week. No one asked her to convert.
Advertising such conversion, in my opinion , is perversion.
