Dr Singh and Mrs Gandhi visited Bihar not on the request of Chief Minister Nitish Kumar but to satisfy two UPA allies including Lalu Yadav's RJD and LJP of Ram Vilas Paswan.

When Dr Singh and Mrs Gandhi toured, Yadav, Paswan and Home Minister Shivraj Patil accompanied them, so naturally it was more help than politics.

With Sonia sharing the seat, the Prime Minister had even announced 10 billion to Bihar for rescue and relief operations and 125,000 tonnes of food grains to thousands hit by the worst floods after the swollen Kosi River changed course.

Back to Orissa, same Prime Minister and same Congress chief yet to respond to demands made by Orissa Government while lakhs of marooned people still crying for foods, water and shelter in all most 17 districts of the State.Where are Dr Singh and Mrs Gandhi? Asked a flood affected villager.

On Saturday after making aerial survey of flood affected areas, Orissa Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik had written to Prime Minister seeking Rs 1,500 crore and five choppers for relief and rescue operation.

But no response yet, official sources said on Sunday. Most shocking fact was that the Prime Minister and UPA chief had even no words for the people of Orissa even despite national and international Medias high lighting the plights of the State following the devastation caused by River Mahanadi.

The Prime Minister even had declared Bihar flood as national calamity but same situation here in Orissa, 7 Race Course Road has no word.With limited resources and man power, the Orissa Government is not in a position to handle such an eventuality while the UPA playing cheap politics.

In 1982, Orissa experienced one of the worst floods, in which the then Prime Minister Indira Gandhi showered central funds lavishly to tackle the situation.During 1982, peak was 15.82 lakh cusecs of water were released from Mundali.Now with 15.81 lakh cusecs of water devastation will be huge.

More than 30 breaches on the embankments of Mahanadi and its branches in the delta have affected over 30 lakh people in 15 districts. The road link between Bhubaneswar and Puri as well as Cuttack and Paradip was disrupted due to major breaches at several places. Light vehicles and two wheelers were not allowed to ply on Puri-Bhubaneswar road due to a breach by Debi River near Pipili, the sources said.

Giving details about damages caused by floods, State Revenue and Disaster Management Secretary G.V.V. Sharma said it was unprecedented and it could no way be termed less devastative than the flood that was witnessed in Bihar due to swelling Koshi River.
