I have observed Medha Patkar's activities since beginning even before the foundations were laid for the Narmada dam when she was agitating against the Dam on ecological and environmental causes. This was later conveniently shifted to resettlement of the tribals of submerged areas, often targetting Gujarat and never M.P. or Maharashtra, part of the geographical tri-junction at Sardar Sarovar. She got ample finances from vested interests abroad to throttle the project, esp. Narendra Mody as Dr.Saxena had publicised and has filed a case against her to show the sources and accounts of expenditure of these funds. She has been indulging in several unethical modus operandi like taking away the already settled tribals to Delhi agitation- though 100% of those on Gujarat side were fully resettled, many in Saurashtra. She also got several buildings, even a Govt. dispensary/ offices at rehabilitation centre demolished when the Supreme Court team was visiting the site- this was shown by visual media. The Narmada Dam would be increased to the full height, though denied now by the UPA Govt., as the people in the area likely to be submerged are to be rehabilitated satisfactorily by Gujarat. This is a passing phase. The media has been responsible for blowing up Medha Patkar as a social activist, due to her connections with Western interests. Her association with the flood control Committee of Kosi basin as suggested by Dr.Mishra would be a disaster unless the intention is , she is to be monetarily benefited by these measures. |
