Heavy Engineering Corporation (HEC) to deliver launching pad for Chandrayan of ISRO
It desires an attention to the fact that it was the same HEC which our then great Finance Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh wanted to close down in 1991. The HEC is for specialised Heavy Engg. Equipment Design and construction and not for making routine nuts and bolts type. At last our Space and Defence programmes are putting this industry to Use. We from Ranchi see every other despatch of one or the other Equipment being loaded on huge transport carriers and sent.

HEC to deliver launching pad for Chandrayan

Ranchi: The Heavy Engineering Corporation (HEC) is all set to deliver the launching pad for Chandrayan satellite-a Rs 380 crore unmanned lunar mission of the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO).

The satellite is likely to be launched next month.

'Five major components of the launching pad has already been supplied, while the remaining few accessories will be delivered shortly to ISRO,' a release from the HEC on Monday said.

The HEC has manufactured the launching gadget for the satellite in six segments with 100 per cent accuracy at a cost of Rs 40 crore.

Accessories made by HEC include folding-cum-vertically repositionable platform, tower crane, horizontal siding door and machine launch platform.

Recently, the HEC has supplied the vertical single column computer numerical control machine to ISRO. The company was given the work after some Japanese companies declined to make the equipment with cent per cent accuracy.

It was for the first time that the machine was made in India.

Officials said that the HEC was unwilling to accept the ISRO proposal for preparing the launch pad for the ambitious Chandrayan mission, anticipating that the accuracy might not be maintained.

However, it took up the work after ISRO officials visited HEC last year and persuaded their HEC counterpart to go ahead on the project.

HEC Chairman-cum-Managing Director GK Pillai said that Sigma Six system was followed in designing and making of the equipment for ISRO to achieve 100 per cent accuracy.
